ScanAlert’s HackerSafe has been making some big headlines recently with the announcements of partnerships with both Yahoo! Shopping and PriceGrabber. These engines have integrated the HackerSafe trustmark feed into their comparison shopping portals. For specifics on the trustmark feed, check out the intro on the HackerSafe site here.

Why would comparison shopping engines be interested in HackerSafe? For starters, the service boasts that: “Tests confirm 15% average conversion increase when your HackerSafe image is displayed directly in comparison shopping search result pages.”

Joe Lazarus, director of marketing at Yahoo Shopping, states: “Combining enhanced security information with price, user ratings and merchant reviews helps online shoppers make more informed and trusted buying decisions.”

Despite such claims, many in the industry are still unsure what the true benefits of these partnerships will be. There are some interesting user comments on a recent GrokDotCom blog entry about whether or not the trust seal brings real value to consumers. Only time (and good solid analysis) will tell.

As a seasoned online shopper with over a decade of experience, I can say that I personally don’t take the time to check for “HackerSafe” or other trustmarks on a merchant product page. However, taking out the price and the brandname factors, I’d be likely to pick a “HackerSafe” trustmarked merchant site over unmarked sites, especially if they were placed right in front of my face on a comparison shopping product page.

Two large-scale integrations is a great start for HackerSafe, and I anticipate more partnerships and continued innovation in this field. I’m not sure how their “feed” currently operates, but I’d love to see a standardized web service (like BuySafe has) be on their roadmap. This would allow developers widespread access to their product, and increase the value of their product for their merchant customers. Here’s one news that will cheer up both the fans and critics of Paris Hilton. As per reports, the social butterfly has taken up a new challenge and accepted the offer to appear on the hit lesbian series The L Word. Though she will be putting up a guest appearance on the acclaimed U.S. cable TV show, there will be no surprise if she is cast as a regular member.

Still unsure about the exact details of her role, Paris appeared clearly thrilled to be a part of the hit TV show as she spoke to Parade.com. She said,

It’s true. I have no idea what kind of character I’ll be playing, but it’s a good show.

Paul, Phann, and I were at the Boylston Street Apple Store opening last night. It was my first of such event, and it was even more fun and exciting than I had expected.

We arrived at 5:30pm, and end up in line several blocks away past Newbury Street.

When we finally made it in, it was quite the warm welcome indeed. The staff lined the entrance clapping and high-fiving all the customers.

Among the highlights of the evening was the cool free t-shirt (as worn by by-stander in top image) and…

I was on the glass spiral staircase, taking pictures of floors beneath through the glass steps when Paul said to me, “Honey, turn around. Your man is on his way up.”

“Eh?”

“Your man, Ellsbury.”

And there he was, Jacoby Ellsbury, the Red Sox outfielder walking up the stairs past us. I just stood there and gawked. When Paul asked me if I wanted a picture with him, I remembered to snap this one blury shot after I shyly said, “nah…”

Do you realize that Christmas is only a little more than four months away? I’m not one of those “wait until the last minute” types to do my Christmas shopping - I plan for the next Christmas on December 26th! I do know, however, that there are always great deals to be had on Black Friday and cyber monday. I often don’t even use those deals for Christmas shopping however (my Christmas shopping is usually done by then!) but I DO take advantage of those sales for thing that I want for myself, or for birthday gifts (for birthdays that are coming up in the winter months!)

There is a website called blackfriday.biz that lists black friday and cyber monday ads well in advance of the actual dates. This is great because it helps me plan out if I want to brave the crowds for any reason. I know that a lot of people LOVE to shop on black friday, but I tend to avoid the crowds and take advantage of cyber monday instead. I was just looking at their ad for the Circuit City’s cyber monday offers, and will be giving that some consideration for my electronics wish list!
